Growing Rice Paddy Herb.................


The cultivation of rice paddy herb

Site: In Vietnam, rice paddy herb usually grown in flooded rice fields. Because it is grown at high temperatures with high humidity, is rice paddy herb growing a challenge outside of the tropics.

Propagation: Get fresh branches of another plant (usually can be found at a Thai or Vietnamese traders). Place stems in water. Roots will form within a few weeks. While they are rooted, they need a plastic bag (or veggie specialty produce bags work great) to ensure moisture, are covered. Place in a shady, but not as dark as the sun will kill in this phase.

Growing: When enough roots have formed, cover the plants in a very tall, clear glass or plastic container with soil to most of the roots. (You could probably sheet of thick plastic and make a long tube. This would also work. See Photo number 3 A mixture of ordinary soil plus smaller parts of the porous clay pots. Keep the plants warm and moist. After a few days in, it will able to strong sunlight or take partial sun.

Culinary uses: rice paddy herb is one of the many culinary herbs is only or primarily used in Vietnamese cuisine. The lemon flavor pairs nicely with fresh water fish. In South Vietnam, it is used in a sweet and sour fish soup. The herb is not cooked, but served raw and garnish coarse as part of the herbs used in southern Vietnamese dishes hacked.
